The First Published Appearance Of A Well-Known Author

fitzgerald Becoming a published author is an arduous task and even the most brilliant of authors generally had modest humble beginnings. Many write all through their childhood and were seemingly born to be writers. Others did not begin writing until the later stages of life and use the treasure trove of their life experience to guide them. Some authors write books for years without being noticed or recognized by the world and because of this, much of their earlier work and appearances are printed in very limited quantities. When an author publishes their singular, breakthrough novel that pushes them to the front of literature after years of obscurity, generally their earlier work becomes a very sought after commodity by collectors and fans alike. Due to the relative scarcity of the earlier work, this can lead to original paperbacks or short stories that are even more valuable than the breakthrough novel! It does not just stop at books, as anything that the author did prior to their stardom can immediately become an instant collectible such as a short story published in compilations, serial work in magazines, plays, and much more. The very first appearance of a legendary author in printed form is considered a must have for a purist collector who is working their collection in a manner that requires all written work by a favorite author.

A great instance of this in my mind is the April 1953 issue of Nature Magazine... Who would have believed that this one magazine would now command a five or six figure price. Do you know why this issue of Nature Magazine is so valuable? Do you know what book was later printed that literally changed the scientific community forever that was based on the article in the April 1953 issue of Nature Magazine? I guarantee that it is something that you have heard of and I guarantee that you will instantly understand the importance of this little article by this no-name scientist when I tell you the answer in our NEXT NEWSLETTER!
(NO - that is too harsh... I will give the answer away at the bottom of this newsletter).

THE ANSWER:

James Watson and his article on Molecular Structure of Nucleic Acid (or DNA)!!! Watson was the co-discoverer of DNA and later published his acclaimed book, The Double Helix about the experience. This is ranked as one of the most significant discoveries of the 20th Century and one little article in a magazine started it all.
