John Steinbeck and John Irving - icons of American Literature.

John Steinbeck

On February 27th, 1902, John Ernst Steinbeck, one of the most influential and widely read authors of the 20th century, was born. His socially-conscious novels are some of the greatest works in American literature and helped earn him the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962. Some of his works include the critically acclaimed Of Mice and Men, the 1940 Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece The Grapes of Wrath, and his cross country travelogue Travels with Charley: In Search of America. Perhaps his most ambitious novel and the novel he personally considered to be his greatest was East of Eden, the story of two families, the Trasks and the Hamiltons, and their interwoven lives. Steinbeck states about East of Eden: "It has everything in it I have been able to learn about my craft or profession in all these years." He further claimed: "I think everything else I have written has been, in a sense, practice for this." FlatSigned is proud to offer from our collection a magnificent copy of this literary classic along with other great copies of some of his finest work in celebration of his important contribution to literature as we know it.

John Irving

March 2nd, 1942 welcomed John Winslow Irving to the world, one of contemporary literature's finest living authors. An internationally acclaimed novelist and Academy-Award winning screenwriter, all of his books after the international success of The World According to Garp in 1978, including well-known works The Cider House Rules and A Prayer for Owen Meany, have been bestsellers. Though many know Irving through Cider House because of its critically acclaimed film adaption for which he won his Academy Award, it was Garp that made Irving one of the most "bankable" modern American novelists, an international bestseller and cultural phenomenon that launched his career. FlatSigned is proud to offer a wonderful copy of his masterpiece along with other classics from his amazing collection of works.
